Why Do You Volunteer?

I’ve been asked the question, “Why do you volunteer?” I could give you a list of reasons such as: volunteering helps nonprofits, it strengthens your community, and it’s your chance to give back. These reasons are all true but for me it means more. It took me a while to figure out where to volunteer and once I found the place, I needed to decide what I would enjoy doing.

For me, it came down to one thing: meeting people. Being part of the Senior Center gives me the opportunity to meet new people every day, develop new and lasting friendships, and eventually become part of this family. At this point, helping and giving has become just a natural thing to do.

I found that being part of the Adult Day Center and its participants has become a big part of my day. Helping others and listening to their stories are enjoyable. I’ve felt that each new story and even some of the old stories are a participant’s way of giving back. So - why do I volunteer? I find I’m learning so many new things by being part of this group. I’m happier and each day is a new adventure which has brought fun into my life.

I invite you to learn more about the volunteer opportunities available at the Senior Center. Whether you decide to join us at the Adult Day Center or some different program at the Senior Center, you never know how it could change your life!
