Meet our ADC Participants! - William “Bill” Whipple

Bill Whipple was born and raised in Milton-Freewater, OR, where he attended Mac-Hi and graduated in 1965. He enjoyed playing football and basketball which he excelled in. After graduation he was employed at the blimp hangars in Tillamook, Oregon. Bill joined the United States Marine Corp stationed in Okinawa and did a tour in Vietnam. Bill LOVES the United States of America and is proud to have served.

After returning home he worked at Smith and Beamer for 13 years and then he went to work at the WA state Penitentiary for 26 years. He developed many friendships and thoroughly enjoyed training new officers to better prepare them for the diverse experiences they would have, safety being number one.

Bill was active in coaching youth football and with the challenger league, which he thoroughly enjoyed and they learned valuable skills and sportsmanship behaviors. After retirement Bill enjoyed many trips to the Oregon coast and Wallowa Lake to include R.V glamping and being on his bowling team.

He enjoys seeing and visiting with the kids and clowning around with the grandkids. Bill cherishes the time he spends in the ADC at the Walla Walla Senior Center; he feels like he's at home when he is there. Bill is a jokester and enjoys making people laugh. He actively participates in the activities offered to him, especially the word games, trivia, tri-ominoes and playing cards, not to mention the best of all… LUNCH!

Bill and his wife, Sherry, are so grateful that this program is available as it is a safe place for the folks and keeps them stimulated and they all enjoy each other. We are blessed!

-Sherry Whipple
